Shih Tzu Itching…home Remedies?

My 4 year old shih tzu is itching very bad. I got some special shampoo from the VET and it doesn’t seem to be working. We have also given him some Benedryl. That helps for a short time. Any other home remedies any knows of? Thanks.

I don’t know about home remedies but you can buy stuff. I have seen adverts for something called Hyper-coat, it contains wheatgerm oil, said to help the dog get superior supple skin & glossy gleaming coat. Good for flaky skin, bare patches & hair shedding. It can be fed as a supplement and can also be used massaged onto the skin. You may be able to find something like it in your local health store….here’s the link – http://www.animal-health.co.uk/eMerchant...
There is also a product for itchy dogs called Dermacton. Here is the link – http://petnat.com/

You have looked for the obvious? Fleas etc You have been to the vets to check if it’s mites ( that needs a scraping of skin and checked)
So it is either the food you are feeding or a reaction to something.
Have you changed food recently or has the food manufacturer changed the ingredients they pup in the food?
Have you changed your washing powder which you wash her bed in or any new cleaning products that you use that she is walking on, sitting on etc
Or have you taken her to any places where she has come into contact with plants she has got a reaction from?

Has your dog been in to see the vet or did you just buy the shampoo from there?
It could be any one of a number of things from fleas to skin allergies to hot spots.
A vet will tell you what is wrong and how to fix it.
