Is There A Home Remedy That Stops Poison Ivy/oak From Itching?

I’ve been to the doctor and the medicine he gave me hasn’t had time to ‘kick in’. The anti-itch lotion/cream isn’t helping either. Do you know of anything that will make the itching stop now!?

The oatmeal will work and it is “natural” but it is also rather goopy. How about plain old Caladryl lotion? Or over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream? That doesn’t take any time to kick in and you don’t have to bathe in it. Otherwise, if you don’t like “medicines” the Aveeno and other oatmeal products really do work.

Get some plain oatmeal ( no flavoring; just something like Quaker Quick oats) and add it to a warm bath. Then soak in the bath for a while. Don’t scrub the rash; that will just make it itch more. Rinse off with lukewarm water and gently towel dry (no rubbing the rash)
Worked when I had chicken pox and poison oak as a kid
