The old “toothpaste on zits” does work.
It’s important to deeply cleanse and clean skin. I find frequent scrubbing with suitable soap is necessary.
Those who are prone to acne breakouts should use a face steamer – once or twice a week, or simply adding hot water to a bowl and covering their head with a towel whilst allowing their face to stay over the steam; this opens pores and seeps out potential dirt and impurities that lead to breakouts.
Clay masks before bedtime, a couple of times a week, are good for maintaining clear skin.
Also, drinking a cup of hot water with a couple of slices of lemon before bedtime, good for clearing breakouts from the inside-out.

The cheapest and one of the oldest remedies for clear skin is to take a bowl of warm water and rinse your face (this opens pores)…follow by rinsing in ice water (this seals pores)

my home remedies might sound ridiculous.. but they’re heavens for me.. =)
i use toothpaste to get rid of zits.. (but i recommend don’t use too much because they can dry out your skin)
i also use milk for toner.. i dab some on cotton balls and swipe it all over my face.. then i use a moisturizer..
for scrub.. i use some milk and brown sugar and a bit of crunched oatmeal (sorry.. but i don’t know the exact measurements..i just kinda mix it on my own.. but for watever it is.. the milk is only to make the sugar and oatmeal stuck together.. so don’t use too much..)..
PS* open up your face by steaming your face over hot water to open up your pores.. then scrub your face.. and then splash your face with cold water after you scrub..
    good luck!

aromatherapy oils are good but need to be used with care and by a professional, although t tree oil and lavender oil are ok to use in small amounts on the skin, makiing face packs out of yoghurt and honey are good as is mashed up avacado , cucumber for puffy eyes , and egg whites for oily skin etc good cleansing and drinking plenty of water, always helps lots of experimenting

I use the essential oil of Lavender directly on a blemish as soon as I feel it coming on.
The oil is an aniseptic, so it keeps the breakout clean and dries it out. That ways they don’t get to bad.
    Also, it smells nice too.
