Is It Safe To Use Head Lice Killer Stuff From The Store To Kill Scabies On 1 And 1/2 Year Old?
I’m almost 100% positive that my family somehow got scabies. My 1 and 1/2 year old is in misery and has the red itchy bumbs ALL OVER her, as do I. We don’t have insurance and all the doctors I call either won’t see us, are booked up or are way too expensive. Medicaid is a joke, so please don’t even suggest it. Please only answer my question, is it safe to use lice killing stuff on a 1 and 1/2 year old because I read several places online that is an effective way to kill scabies without a prescription? (all the prescriptions to kill scabies are toxic anyway, so it seems a home remedy would be safer for my daughter). I’ve been using tea tree oil since last night, it seems to help a little, but it said not to use it on children so I’ve used such a small amount on her that it doesn’t seem to help her.
thanks
Last summer we had a head lice problem in my house, at the time my youngest wasn’t even one yet. After calling the pediatrician, I found out it is ok to use the head lice killing shampoo on them. You just need to be very careful to not get the shampoo in her eyes. Also the tea tree oil is ok to use as well, it will not hurt her unless she ingests it. I used it too on my kids and myself when we had that darn lice problem. Unfortunately though, we ended up having to get the kids on a prescription medicine to kill the lice. So just be aware that could end up being a possibility with the scabies, but in the meantime, it is ok to use the over the counter shampoo and tea tree oil. Good luck.
I read that an enzyme shampoo can kill them.
ask a pharmacist. they can generally answer those types of question or see if you can call a homeopathic practitioner
call your pediatrician, don’t doctor it yourself.
Tea tree oil at Walmart in the vitiamin section kills lice and prevents it, but I do not know about scabies . I would personaly take my children down to the local E.R and get them seen we are not doctors and you really should not follow our advise when it comes to the health of your family.
i wouldn’t chance it. that stuff is pretty harsh. i agree with the first person, ask a pharmacist. or try an anti-dandruff shampoo (like head n shoulders) my doctor said that this is safe for my daughter of the same age. just use a little bit and be careful not to get it into her eyes.
Call the ER, and they will tell you if it is safe or not.
This same question was asked a few days back.

Your situation is so unfair, i wish i had an answer for you, try webmd.com and see what you can find out there, there a message boards at that site where you can actually get a response from a doctor. Good luck, i hope you find the answers you need.
There are very few medications that are safe to use on children younger than two for scabies and lice. # Only permethrin, crotamiton, and sulfur ointment are considered safe for treating children younger than age 2.
Lindane is sometimes used as a treatment. Lindane is not recommended for babies, older adults, anyone who weighs less than 110 lb or people who have a weakened immune system.Lindane shampoo and lotion are not available in California for treating lice or scabies.
Scabies often requires a prescription, usually permethrin, to get rid of it, along with a thorough housecleaning. It usually cures scabies infestation after the first application. Kwell (lindane) which is also used for lice sometimes helps, but the preferred medications for small children and breastfeeding women are precription only. There really aren’t any good, reliable, home treatments.
Firstly, it won’t do any good. Won’t kill the mites and will damage their skin. Unfortunately the only thing that will work is the prescription treatment. Because the mites are under the skin, the head lice treatment won’t reach them unless you practically drown your kids in it!
Scabies are found in between the fingers and toes, and then after that in the creases or elbows and knees, anywhere warm and hard to wash. Is there a possibility that you and your daughter have caught chicken pox or measles from someone? If the bumps are all over and your daughter is unwell in herself as well it sounds more like that sort of thing. If you really can’t afford a doctor, try NHS direct online. It’s a UK site, but will help you diagnose what you both have and give you self help ideas. Good luck.
