It sounds like your little one has a skin infection called “pyoderma” – many pets will just suddenly develop it and some have an underlying cause such as food or pollen allergies. Definitely take her to your vet to get some antibiotics and discuss possible underlying conditions. If it is focused mainly on her tail area and she is very itchy, it may be a flea bite allergy with a secondary infection or if she is an older dog, it may be a sign of an underlying problem. Either way, it’s time to make an appointment with your vet. Soap free shampoo such as Hylyt left on for 5 minutes several times per week and 1/2 – 1 tsp olive oil in her food can help to support her skin until you can get in to see your vet. Topical flea treatments from the vet only (over the counter flea medicines are pesticides which can hurt your pet – the ones from your vet are much safer and stop the flea from biting) may help if she has fleas because it stops the allergic reaction to the flea saliva.

There is no point in trying home remedies if you don’t know what the problem is. Take her to the vet for a diagnosis and treatment.
It could be mange or ringworm. It’s not something to ignore and hope it goes away.
