What Could I Do About My Bi Polar Depression That Is Interfering With My Life?
I have bi polar disorder and i’m 19 years old and i am really angry and depressed right now because my life sucks and everything is not good at all. I can’t seem to have any of the good things, i want to drive so i took the driver’s permit test i fail two times in a row and looks like there is no hope of driving a car because i can’t remember what i’ve read in the book. I’ve also always wanted a girlfriend but when i tried asking girls out, they said that i am ugly and one girl said that she wanted to throw up just when she looked at me. It hurts my feelings that no girls are intrested in me and i’m very depressed because of that. Recently, my parents brought home a puppy and it seems to get rid of my depression a little bit until the dog had problems when it pooped out worms and now they want to get rid of it even though they took it to the vet already and had shots for prevention. What could i do about my depression that is interfering with my life ? I feel so sad and depressed because of this situation, what could i do so i could feel better again ? I’ve tried some home remedies for depressino but it is not working. Would there still be any chance of finding a girlfriend after getting rejected all of the time ? Could anyone please help me out ? I want to feel better but i can’t and i feel like i want to kill myself to get out of this misery !
Hi: I recommend you first have a consultation with a licensed psychologist or psychotherapist. They can probably offer you a diagnosis and, more important, suggestions for improving your depression. Everything you wrote suggests you have clinical depression. However, you did not write anything about the mood swings that characterize bipolar disorder. As you probably know, people with bipolar disorder have mood swings from depression to manic highs or hypomanic highs (highs that are much less intense than full-blown mania).
A licensed psychologist or therapist might refer you to a psychiatrist for a consultation about medication. On the other hand, the therapist might think you can be helped without resorting to medication.
I generally suggest that people start with more natural remedies, which would have no or little side effects. Most psychiatric meds have side effects. I suffer from major depression and I found that exercise is a great antidepressant. A healthy diet can also help. However, my case is complicated, so I am also on two psychiatric meds.
Research shows that psychotherapy plus medication is usually more effective than therapy alone or medication alone.
Finally, I suggest starting out with a consult with a therapy before seeing a psychiatrist. Most shrinks think that almost anything can be solved by pills, pills, pills. Sometimes meds can help but sometimes they are not necessary. If you find shrinks or therapists you don’t like, you can always try to get a 2nd opinion. I wish you well.
go see a doctor for some medication, that should help. talk to your parents about it so they too can help. good luck hope you feel better.
Johm, the one thing you haven’t tried is to go to a psychiatrist. Depression isn’t just a bad mood or a moral failing; it is a actual medical illness involving fewer neurotransmitters in your brain than you need. You need a prescription from a psychiatrist and monitoring of the drug in your system to start getting things right. Before you tell me you won’t go on medications, consider that you are a few steps from death. It would be a tragedy to let a lack of some neurotranmitters kill you when a pill could restore those neurotransmitters.
Call your family doctor and get a referral for a psychiatrist. Make an appointment and keep it. I assure you that things will slowly get better.
Tell yout parents that many puppies are born with roundworms. Worm pills take care of the problem. My puppy Panda had roundworms and lived a healthy 12-year life as a loyal buddy. If they get another puppy, the same thing could happen.
Get yourself to the psychiatrist post-haste. If they don’t give you an appointment soon, tell them that you are very suicidal and have been for some time. Ask your family for a little support. Good luck!!!
You definitely need to talk with a doctor. You are 19, so are of age. The home remedies
seldom work, and may make things worse without you knowing it. Home remedies can be as bad as pharmaceuticals for side effects if you don;t know what you are doing with them. You are probably projecting your depression, and people are picking up on it.
So, you need to get some help, and I do believe there are medications out there that will help you. They can do wonders as far as turning your life around.
Bipolar disorder is a chemical imbalance in your brain, so it is a physical disease with a mental manifestation. Lithium is one med that can do the trick, but you must be monitored for liver function every few months on lots of meds for bipolar. I promise you will feel better when you get some real help. You
will be able to turn your life around, and it is a job you have to accept and tackle. It is worth it.
Hey kid, I’m ugly too. So are most movie celebrities. In fact, 85 % of the world population are ugly.
People think that George Clooney is attractive. He does have a certain look about him but is he really that handsome or is it his charm and wit, (and his neat appearance) that makes the attraction?
I used to go to night clubs (high society) in my early twenties, I dressed really nice. I would hand kiss the women before asking them for a dance. hehehe
A disorder is no reason why you cannot enjoy life, only a setback to some choices.
In my first Drivers’ Licence test, I went round a corner on two wheels. The instructor and Police person went white as a sheet. Needless to say they failed my first attempt. Six months later, I tried again. My parking wasn’t perfect but they said I would improve and accepted my test. Yay!
Rather than asking girls out, try to make friends first. Chat with them, talk about the things they talk about, celebrities, movies, whatever. Talk about the things that interest you. When you invite her out, go some place simple like a take away place or a live band or bike-riding or something that is non-committal, just friends enjoying each others’ company.
If girls say they want to throw up then make a joke out of it like,”Yeh, when I was born, the doctor didn’t slap me, he slapped my mother” or something like that.
I find that if I make light jokes about my looks, it eases the pressure on me and the other person can see the humour to it as well.
